Choosing Your New House

There are so many things to consider when buying homes. Keep in mind that the house you buy now may not be the last house you buy. Think about what your needs will be for the next 3 to 5 years. You might not be able to afford your dream home right now or maybe you can.

Here is a list of things to consider when buying homes:

•  Location: Salt Lake City or suburban Salt Lake
•  Type: House, condo, duplex?
•  Style: Rambler / Ranch, Bungalow, Tudor, Victorian, Muli-level, 2 Story?
•  Age: New, Vintage (old), in between
•  Exterior: Brick, siding, stucco, stone, wood, log
•  Move in condition or Fixer upper?
•  Vaulted or high ceilings?
•  Finished basement, unfinished basement, walk out basement?
•  How many bedrooms? Do you need room for extended family or visitors?
•  How many baths?
•  Common area: How much do you need? Need 2 areas?
•  Kitchen: Gourmet, New, eat-in, do it yourself?
•  Baths: New, old, do it yourself?
•  Flooring: Hardwood, carpet, tile?
•  Fireplace?
•  Cooling: Evaporative cooler or central air?
•  Roof: Is flat OK?
•  Upgraded mechanical systems? All/Some/None..
•  Garage, Carport, RV Parking, Shop?
•  Attached Garage?
•  Wide Driveway, Rear parking?
•  Which way does house face (North, South, East, West)?
Summer and Winter concerns.
•  Yard/Big yard/No Yard?
•  Sprinkler system?
•  Fenced yard?
•  Landscaped or not?
•  Deck, Patio, none?
•  Feng Shui?

Keep in mind that if you narrow it down to much, it may be very hard to find unless you build it yourself and of course there are always other things to consider.
