If you are going through a divorce and want to buy a Salt Lake City home or condo, there are a few things to think about.

First, if you already own a home in Salt Lake City with your spouse, determine what to do with that home. A few of the options are to sell it, one person gets it in the settlement, or one person gets it and cashes the other out. Consult an attorney for advice on this matter.

If you do not own a Salt Lake City home with your spouse, it might be wise to wait until the divorce is final before buying a home in Salt Lake.  Acquiring a home before the divorce is final is risky and could complicate the settlement.

Once you have a divorce decree, you can apply for a mortgage and go find a great new Salt Lake City home that you qualify for on your own.

Consult your attorney on specifics for this subject.

If your plan is to move from one home to another, just putting your home on the market isn’t enough.  Your home will need to be ready to show and you’ll need a strategy to accomplish the sale and purchase of another home in a reasonable time frame.

With 10 years selling homes in metro Salt Lake and 20 years in the real estate business, I have many strategies and an in depth understanding of what it takes to help you sell and buy another home.  Call or email me if you’d like to take advantage of this opportunity!
